Relentlessly optimistic, drunk and defeated, man-child, sponge-man — this movie has it all. Most of the parents in the audience didn’t accept it. But I’ve been an outspoken SpongeBob fan for years. Hell, I’ll bet I like the television point to even more than my children do — and they like it a lot.

It’s hard to record this film, at least in a plan that will do it justice. Is it titanic? In it’s believe bent, surreal method, determined. It’s littered with double entendres, to be definite, and a few nautical butt cheeks, too. I bid the studio insisted on the latter. The bottom line is that we need SpongeBob, maybe more than we ever did. His generous cheer in the face of wretchedness is downright inspirational. Plus, he can blow bubbles with the best of them.
The detestable villain, Plankton, speaks for all of us when he says, “His chops are too obliging!”
The controversy over SpongeBob’s sexual orientation has been quite consuming but nowhere reach as absorbing as this very droll movie based on the approved TV series on Nickelodeon. Unprejudiced in case you’ve been living under a rock for the last five years, SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Mr. Krabs and all the residents of Bikini Bottom have become the most hip (and droll) half hour this side of “The Simpsons”. More importantly, it’s a program that almost all family members can recognize without becoming offended (well, except for those folks wondering about SpongeBob’s sexuality) . It’s a fun plot to exhaust an hour and a half with the kids. After losing a treasured promotion to manage the Krusty Krab 2 restaurant because he’s fair a kid, SpongeBob is the only person who can halt Plankton from taking over Bikini Bottom. Plankton resorts to Understanding Z (having old every other opinion in the alphabet) to frame Mr. Krabs for the theft of King Neptune’s crown. The dinky Plankton hopes to peruse the secret to the Krabby Patty and ultimately rule the undersea world! Meanwhile, Spongebob and his shaded witted friend Patrick must depart to the dreaded Shell City to recover the King’s crown and discontinuance Plankton before it’s too tedious.

Featuring a noble cast of guest voices including Jeffrey Tambor (“Arrested Development”), Scarlet Johansson (“Lost in Translation”), Clancy Brown (“The Shawshank Redemption”), Alec Baldwin and, of all people, David Hasselhoff, the film may lack the sparkle of the best episodes of the series but it more than makes up for this shortcoming with a number of witty gags. Kids will relish the antics of SpongeBob and Patrick while adult males will empathize King Neptune’s attempts to cover his bald state with his crown (he’s desperate enough to resort to Hair in a Can at one point although that doesn’t quite work out as planned) and envy David Hasselhoff as he uses his pecs to originate the duo wait on into the sea. There’s also a serious message as Mindy the King’s daughter encourages SpongeBob and Patrick to be kids and be OK with it.
Featuring a ample transfer with brilliant and luminous colors, Bikini Bottom has never looked so, well, racy. A very spicy transfer with few digital artifacts to distract viewers from the absurd images, “Spongebob” looks better than any sponge has a lawful to. The 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround mix is old to well-behaved and sometimes very droll accomplish.
The 20 miniature animatic segment gives viewers a peak into all the preparation work that went into producing the movie. Director Hillenburg’s comments provide though-provoking and sometimes laughable insights into the challenge of producing a movie distinguished less a TV series as comical as this. The behind-the-scenes featurette is both charming and quite comical with a search for into everything from creating the absurd sage at the heart of this film to the hilarious recording sessions featuring the recount cast. There’s also a featurette The “THQ” game demo is actually quite fun but doesn’t really provide that great of a taste as to what the game could do. The Case of Sponge “Bob” features Jean-Michel Cousteau in a tongue-in-cheek short documentary. We sight an informative and fun discussion of right sponges with undersea footage narrated by Cousteau with writer/director Hillenburg. “Saving the Surf” features Chad Nelsen, Matt McClain and Steve Pezman founders of the Surfrider Foundation discussing the importance of keeping our environment orderly and the impact of our pollution on the ocean and our beaches. The teaser trailer for “Submarine” features footage of “Das Boot”, “U571″ and “The Hunt for Red October” intercut with footage created for the cartoon trailer for “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie”. There’s also previews for other Paramount family marvelous titles as well.
A laughable visit with the denizens of the deep, “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie” will support you and the kids entertained. The film doesn’t pander to kids and has impartial the honest level of slapstick humor to support adults entertained as well. Although it does have a serious message at its core, the film is a lot of fun.

The former DVD of “Up in Smoke” was what you’d query — the movie duly presented plus a commentary with Cheech Marin and Adler, plus a handful of deleted scenes.
This time, Paramount fills the DVD bong with a terrific current titillating music video for the movie’s “Alice Bowie” song; a modern featurette with producer Lou Adler and Cheech & Chong (separately) talking about the movie; a high-speed montage of every instance someone says “man” in the movie; and some newly absorbing 1970s radio promos — all of presented in the high spirits of the film.
The stale commentary (ported over) and modern featurette swear some tall tales about the movie and the people who worked on it, such as Stacey Keach, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Edie Adams and one-man test audience Jack Nicholson.
The widescreen DVD images see tremendous, especially upconverted, with lots of vivid, saturated notable colors that arrive across as reasonably natural. The music benefits from some tasty stereo separation and the dialogue is certain — even when the boys are genuine and zonked.
pleasant dreams …
Out of all the Cheech & Chong collaborations, their first film, 1978′s Up In Smoke quiet stands as the best. A comedy classic that objective can’t be duplicated, not even by themselves. The station (can you guess? ) concerns two dudes, Pedro (Cheech) & Man (Chong) and their search for the best weed, rock music, and pleasurable times, man. Of course this swagger comes with a impress, evading a group of “undercover” cops led by the obsessed Sgt. Stedenko (Stacy Keach) . If you like cars, you’ll no doubt be pleased Pedro’s Admire Machine, which he decorated himself, and the van made completely out of pot! Glimpse out for that smoke. A few of the funniest scenes approach from this van: 1. When the cop pulls them over and forgets why! and 2. When Stedenko and crew stand next to the smoking van and feel the influence, then order some pizzas! If you like to rock, then you’ve got that too. To quote the concert announcer – “…I don’t know who they are, but here’s ALICE BOWIE.” Being a drummer myself, I’m more than a itsy-bitsy jealous of Chong’s tremendous drumsticks! However, I’m not jealous of Cheech’s tu-tu! The characters Cheech & Chong created began to wear out in later films, but don’t count this one out. Up In Smoke is when it was novel and unusual and somehow it collected “smokes” to this day.

Some comments on the DVD: One reviewer stated that the DVD doesn’t have any features, but that’s unprejudiced not suitable. I unprejudiced bought the 2000 Paramount DVD release and it has the following:
*Widescreen Version for 16:9 TVs
*Feature Length Commentary with Cheech Marin & Director Lou Adler
*8 Deleted Scenes (including Harry Dean Stanton as a security guard) with optional commentary by Cheech & Lou Adler
*Original Theatrical Trailer
*Dolby Digital: English 5.1 Surround/Restored English Mono
*English Subtitles
A stout map to possess a comedy classic and Paramount has given a runt something to the fans with this DVD release. Don’t even sleep on it, honest win this primo disc, man!

As a musical theater purist, I was concerned that a movie musical with 3 of Hollywoods A list stars would be a hinderance rather than a wait on in the “revival” of the genre. I must say that I was blown away by the sheer genius and excellence of the film.
Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Velma was equal to, if not better than Bebe Neuwerth’s ( Brodway revival) . Her sparkling content and masterful dance skill is salubrious of the mountainous white procedure. A Tony may have been a more appropriate award as opposed to her distinguished deserved Oscar. Although Rene Zellwegers narrate was a itsy-bitsy shaky in the begining she brought out a tough side in Roxy that was not there in neither the unusual nor the revival stage versions. Then my biggest alarm, Richard Gere as Billy Flinn, was in a word perfect. You can’t ask for a better fit, and what a shocker to seek that extraordinary tapdance!

With astronomical costumes,Fosse-like choreography, expert lighting and singing (by many broadway veterans in the chours as extras) this shaded comedy shines. Also with spacious cameos and supporting performances by the grand Chita Rivera ( modern broadway cast),John C. Reily (oscar nominated),Lucy Liu, and Christine Baranski this film shines as one of the greatest ever made, not fair as a musical, but as a film. Choose Marshall’s directorial debut deserves all of it’s accolades…and all that jazz.
It is the 1920s in Chicago and we enter this musical film through a saucy nightclub to study Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) performing a duo act of All that Jazz on her believe. Only later is it revealed what happened to her sister who was supposed to be the second half of the act. Next we meet Roxie Hart (Renée Zellweger) who is a naive girl with stout dreams of stardom who goes to the slammer for killing her lover. From the moment she enters and we gaze a brief flash of her imagining herself on stage, we are aware that this film is half reality and half Roxie’s dream. Ambitious Roxie has to salvage a procedure to gather herself out of prison and onto the stage. To do this she creates an innocent persona that is designed by her composed talking lawyer Billy Flynn (Richard Gere) for the media to bring the public to her help. With his support and the sassy matron of the women’s prison ‘Mama’ Morton (Queen Larifah) Roxie eclipses Velma Kelly’s prison girl fame. Her matronly values and repentant attitude have the public enthralled and the jury in tears. But with her newfound celebrity Roxie’s head is sent spinning again with plans of musical fame. However, it becomes increasingly sure that her popularity will be dreadfully short lived if she doesn`t craft a arrangement to remain in the spotlight. Teetering on the brink of superstar celebrity and death row, Roxie will have to give the performance of her life if she wants to place her neck. Filled with beautifully choreographed catchy musical numbers and a dazzling sweep of quickly dramatic action, there is never a uninteresting moment in this film. It’s a triumphantly delectable thing to inspect.
The greatest reason for this film’s success is due to the attractive ensemble of actors many of whom (with the exception of Queen Larifah) we aren’t familiar with hearing snarl. The cast all excel in both in their musical numbers and acting performances. Catherine Zeta-Jones looks comely and is fun in her catty diva role. Renée Zellweger is perfect for her fragment of the innocent, but aloof definite and quietly vicious, Roxie who will halt at nothing to become a star. Like in the striking film Nurse Betty, Zellweger’s character again confuses reality with her dreams and her subtle facial shifts and movement meaningfully characterize her psychological conflict. Most surprisingly, Richard Gere delivers a fabulous performance as the slimy lawyer proving that this actor can really do comedy well. Then there are indispensable performances in minor roles that leave an impact such as Queen Latifah`s sultry money-hungry matron, Christine Baranski as the hilarious news reporter Mary Sunshine, John C Reilly as Roxie’s neglected but aloof loving husband Amos Hart and Lucy Liu as the vicious ball-busting heiress Kitty.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Chicago! Click Here
Those familiar with the renowned stage present of Chicago will not be disappointed because this film maintains its focus on the musical and dance numbers as the centerpiece. In fact, the meaning of Roxie’s psychological confusion between reality and fantasy is wonderfully accentuated by the film’s ability to swiftly sever between the drab, harsh reality and the glamorous, jazzy corners of Roxie’s imagination. The director Retract Marshall excellently filmed all the dance numbers to focus on particular moves as well as hold the fat action of the performances for the fullest attain. This movie is a heavenly example of how a musical film can succeed where its pertinent counterpart (as both films focus on a female on death row) Dancer in the Shaded failed. The musical numbers all choose a significant role in both accentuating status detail and enjoyably spicy the film along. Likewise, the record does not lift itself too seriously preferring to revel in the wonderful music and thrilling tale rather than focus on any specific just meaning. That isn’t to say that this film isn’t emotionally involving. It excels in its ability to entertain you as well as map you into an captivating legend of fame, glamour and death.

National Velvet is a classic film, delightful and though-provoking for the whole family. I give the film itself 5 stars for this reason alone. They objective don’t gain ‘em like this anymore!!!

…And now for the trusty nitty gritty…Warner (and previously MGM DVD) should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such an rank transfer of this substantial Technicolor classic! While the colors explain up well in most of the film, the main pickle with this DVD is that the source print was VERY DIRTY!!!!
Expect to study PLENTY of scratches, dust, and out-of-focus shots throughout the 124 little running time.

Overall, this is a complete disgrace because Turner Classic Movies runs a fantastically restored PRISTINE print of National Velvet on their network…free of scratches and dust.
Also, I have another word to the folks at Warner: LOSE THE CHEAPIE SNAPPER CASE PACKAGING!!! AMARAY Withhold CASE ALL THE Arrangement!!!
5 stars for the film….1 star for the lousy treatment on DVD!!!
This is another of those classic horse movies that is Quiet enormous today! I have seen it a hundred times, and I smooth appreciate it honest as great as the first time.
Buy,Download, Or Stream National Velvet! Click Here
The memoir is basically a abominable, horse-crazy girl named Velvet Brown (Elizabeth Taylor) ends up with an unruly, but talented horse she calls The Pie. He’s known for jumping out of pastures and being a nuisance! A young boy (Mickey Rooney) ends up staying with her family for awhile, to serve out with the family business. He happens to know about horses and helps Velvet swear The Pie. They destroy up entering the horse in the most prestigious steeplechase event in the world, the Tremendous National. The rest I’ll withhold a secret!
The chronicle is so heart warming and special… the characters are laughable and sympathetic. The acting is honorable! A very young Angela Landsbury has a portion as Velvet’s fair older sister! And the bustle at the ruin is fair quick-witted – you really can’t wait on but cheer The Pie on – to this day I gather myself standing up and screaming along as he is leaping over those fences!
The movie followed the basic anecdote of the book, but as with most movies they had to leave a lot out. The book is a classic in its absorb upright though, and well worth reading if you haven’t already. The chronicle is so entertaining and fun, its one I will never forget. I highly recommend seeing this movie, even if you’re not a horse fanatic.

My 2 favorites are the documentaries on profiling in general and on Charles Manson in particular. Very exciting. And as another reviewer here already stated, you do rep yourself feeling sorry for the women of the “Manson family” serving life sentences. Given what the women did, however, my empathy was short-lived and forgotten about ten minutes after the DVD was over.
The other 2 documentaries, Dahmer & Gacy, were very well done and had more than a few slight known facts included in them. To be unbiased, I found both of these documentaries so disturbing that I have a hard time saying I “liked” them, but they are most definitely well researched and eye-opening. They are [scary], will probably give you nightmares, but they are provocative.
All in all, this is a fine collection. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because I doubt this is something anyone will study twice (which is kind of the point in regards to owning a DVD!) I have never seen this collection for rent at a video store so that probably leaves you with the choice of buying it or never seeing it unless they air reruns on A&E. I don’t know what to recommend, but personally I don’t regret spending the cash.
This is a 2-disc state from A&E featuring hour-long documentaries about Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, and Charles Manson, as well as a reveal about “profilers,” the people who can net clues from serial killers’ crime scenes and almost uncannily can philosophize you anything you want to know about the killer without luminous anything about them.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Serial Killers 2-pack! Click Here
The Jeffrey Dahmer episode was the most disturbing as everyone has heard of his massacre in Milwaukee, but there were a lot of details in this episode that I had never heard before. Very scary stuff. Another thing I found piquant was the very mysterious similarities between Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy after watching those episodes befriend to succor. Their methods and motives were strikingly similar which makes it monstrous to deem that there are more people like that out there in the world.
The Charles Manson episode was kind of modern as it features interviews with Manson and his primitive “family members” from prison. The women that broken-down to practically be his slave are now serving life sentences and it’s murky to contemplate that Manson’s brainwashing turned these normal (at least they seemed very normal and apologetic in their interviews) women into brutal killers who ruined the rest of their young lives for gorgeous great no reason.
All in all, a very superior retract. There are no special features on the disc, but you are getting almost 4 hours of entertainment, so I consider it’s well worth it.

Ok, every now and then we seek a movie so outrageously comical, so sleazy, fleshy of exploitive scenes and so trashy that you wonder as to why you would ruin your time watching it and how you managed to sit through the whole thing. I saw “The Girls REBEL FORCE of Competitive Swimmers” (aka. Joshikyoei hanrangun, Attack Girls’ Swim Team vs. The Undead) earlier this year, and honestly, I feel so guilty that I managed to sit through the film. Well, I have a weakness for zombies and I have to present that I am no snob. Hey, The film does feature hot Japanese girls in swimsuits and they’re often seen in their birthday suits.

Aki (Sasa Handa) is a student with a shy past. She was kept prisoner and abused by an enigmatic professor and trained to be an assassin. She had impartial transferred to a school at the worst possible time. There’s a mysterious virus in the school and students and teachers are being rounded up to receive a vaccine to counter the virus. However, the very same vaccine supposed to protect them from infection is actually a drug that turns everyone to flesh-eating zombies. Luckily, Aki skipped on the vaccine, and the swim team is immune to the virus because of the chemicals demonstrate in the school’s swimming pool–chlorine. Aki finds out that the man responsible for the injections is the same man who sexually abused and kept her prisoner.
I was expecting a film distinguished like “Wild Zero”, “Sars Wars: Bangkok Zombie Crisis”, and “Meatball Machine” when I set the DVD in the player. The film is radiant terrible, but I have to admit I couldn’t benefit snickering and giggling while I was watching it. The film is somewhat keen in a “guilty” type of diagram (or maybe I have unpleasant taste? ) . The film really seemed like director Koji Kawano and the rest of the film crew were writing the film as they went along and drinking a lot of sake while shooting it. The fight scenes are comical, the “special effects” are a far weep from being “special”, the situation is so amusing and it is so tiring, that the script doesn’t originate sense at all.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Attack Girls’ Swim Team vs. the Undead! Click Here
So why the heck did I extinguish my time watching it??
The film does score some originality when it comes to sheer campiness. A swim team that takes on zombies determined is unique. The girls aren’t as hot as those in “OneChanbara” but they are quite sexy in their beget design. It’s a wonder that they had to change to swimsuits before they go into battle. There’s an abundance of female nudity and softcore sex scenes–there’s even girl-on-girl action. There is blood and gore when a teacher uses a ruler to crop off limbs and heads. There is a zombie lunch buffet. I will shriek you the film’s most gross scene: a laser beam is shot from the lead actress’s crotch region!! The actresses knew what exactly they signed up for in this film–count on the Japanese to accomplish a film that counts on pure exploitation, panty shots, sex scenes and a lot of female nudity to set audiences in the seats.
The film does not design any bit of sense and to be impartial, I feel quite hypocritical if I said I didn’t like trashy films–but I really don’t. But how advance I know this film is indeed dreadful but never for a moment did I feel bored in its entirety? The film’s sex scenes are unarrousing but I have a hard time telling the contrast between erotic and dull–because the film doesn`t create any sense. The rape scene feels forced and the acting is really unpleasant. I have to say that the low-budget blood and gore is exciting. Plus, nothing is as dismal as a “crotch laser beam”. “Attack Girls` Swim Team vs. the Undead” is DEFINITELY NOT for everyone. If any of my descriptions sound provocative to you, then go ahead and give the movie a spin–just don’t say I didn’t warn you. The film is a hoot!
Rent it! But recommended to fans of Japanese trashy exploitation and wacky films. [2 ½ Stars]
I gain the region-3 Hong Kong release. Can someone snort me why I bought this??
Attack Girls Swim Team vs. the Undead (Koji Kawano, 2007)
Okay, let’s initiate off by saying that if you’re the kind of person who sees a title like Attack Girls Swim Team vs. the Undead and does not immediately mediate “THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER”, you’re probably in the contemptible position. Because that’s exactly what I plan when I saw the title of this movie, and, well, I’m the guy who’s writing the review. If we’re coming from entirely different mindsets… you know. And while the movie doesn’t live up to the promise of the title, it’s certainly splendid for a romp.
Aki (Sasa Handa) is the fresh girl at school. Keeps to herself, serene, that sort of thing. One day, Sayaka (Yuria Hidaka), seeing her at the side of the pool and mistaking her for someone else, pushes her in as a prank. The two of them become speedily friends after that, but this is no simple friendship drama. Because, after all, there must be an horrible mastermind experimenting on the school (where else but in Japan? ), administering a “vaccine” for a icy that’s going around. But, yeah, vaccine? It makes zombies of everyone but Aki and the girls’ swim team, who must come by a cure.
No, it’s not a mammoth movie, and most of the time it’s not even a qualified movie. But on the Joe Bob Briggs blood, breasts, and beasts scale, it gets top marks in all three categories (including one scene between Handa and Hidaka that wouldn’t be out of region in an Emmanuelle flick), and it adds a continual element of impartial view exclusive, in that style the Japanese do so well. The climax of the movie is fair jaw-dropping. I mean, really, off-the-scale, [censored for Amazon consumption] nuts. And hysterically droll, if that kind of humor works for you.
So, yeah, not a righteous movie, but it’s the kind of unpleasant movie that transcends its badness and becomes something vast. This is one you owe it to yourself to search for. ****

I loved this novela when I was younger… and when I found out that I could rob the DVD place I was contented. But when you bewitch this considerable shorter version, you lose a lot of detail. I decided to surf the rep and I found a substantial website “Novelas R Us” that contains the complete novelas. I objective bought Corazon Salvaje (on 20 DVDs) and am going to steal this one (on 19 DVDs) . The best thing about it is that they are only 65 dollars each (considering that you derive only a few hours for 20 bucks) . I can’t wait to receive it.

Although, some people recall the shorter versions, I like the longer ones because of the details that are missed in the shorter ones. This novela should be enjoyed in detail and I am certainly going to shop for other common novelas of mine.

What is contained in this Thinpak status is the entire series of Boogiepop Phantom (BP) – 12 episodes on 4 DVDs – and the live-action film “Boogiepop and Others / Boogiepop Doesn’t Smile” (BaO) . In Japan, Boogiepop was spawned as a series of young adult novels. BaO was the first new released in the Boogiepop series, and the film is an adaptation of it. Therefor it is a prequel to BP. I originally watched the series first, but the 2nd time I watched the film then series. Watching BaO first is likely preferable, as it details the events that the BP is centered around. To ogle BP with no knowledge of BaO can be even more confusing than it already is.
BOOGIEPOP AND OTHERS / BOOGIEPOP DOESN’T SMILE
7 / 10
Buy,Download, Or Stream Boogiepop Phantom DVD Thinpak Collection! Click Here
The film, like the series, tells multiple stories that intertwine concerning a central theme. Specifically, there’s 4 stories that revolve around the appearance of a monster known as the manticore, a peculiar man known as Echoes, and Boogiepop herself. Boogiepop is a Shinigami, or the Japanese equivalent of Death. Boogiepop manifests as an alternate personality to an individual when dangers appear that threaten our world.
This film is relatively improper budget. You could call it the equivalent of a B-Movie. The special effects and action scenes are more funny than anything, and the sound and music has a very un-professional feel. That said, it’s surprisingly scrumptious. The cheesiness is kept to a minimum as the focus remains on the characters. Don’t go into this expecting Hitchcock-like film mastery and it shouldn’t be too hard to relish. The young cast is the highlight. I especially liked Boogiepop herself and Nagi Kirima. The vision it paints of Japan is actually a nice one, especially the shots of Boogiepop on top of the buildings at sunset. I also get the pacing here well done. Each chronicle has its maintain drag, but at the same time It feels like a accurate progression towards the conclusion. Many animes could actually learn a lesson about walk, rhythm, and timing from this flash-less film.
The extras are nice and really extensive. They are perhaps better than the film itself (which can be taken as a friendly or unpleasant thing) . I especially enjoyed the “making of” featurette, as it appears the entire cast had a blast making the film. They include:
*History of Boogiepop
*Director’s Commentary
*Storyboards
*Boogiepop in Yubari
*Premier Featurette
*Making of Boogiepop Featurette
*Cast and Staff Bios
*Trailers
Overall, this is a quality adaptation of the fresh if one doesn’t reflect it on too harsh of standards. I’m satisfied it’s included as it’s really obedient in opinion the Boogiepop universe before venturing into the difficult BP.
BOOGIEPOP PHANTOM
8 / 10
This series centers around the events at the demolish of B&O, and its lingering effects. The “pillar of light” that was seen in that night’s sky gives multiple people curious abilities. With it came a rainbow-like haze that lingers over the city. An rotten creature is lurking among the population and teenagers are disappearing. Boogiepop appears out of the get of Toka Miyashita to hunt down the unleashed corrupt along with Nagi Kirima. Even more mysterious is the appearance of Phantoms – echoes of beings that already exist. One such is a Phantom of Boogiepop. Rumors swirl of an organization slow the creation of beings known as composite humans. Memories of skittish pasts plague the people of the city, including a serial killer that stalked the city 5 years ago. What does all of this mean for the students of two local schools including Shinyo Academy?
This is as bizarre an anime as there is. It has a Lain-like feel with its unlit, mysterious tone. While Lain is more abstract and psychedelic, BP more whine and tangible – but don’t confuse this with simplicity. BP’s anecdote is one of the most complex you’ll perceive in anime. Like the film, it tells multiple stories in a fractured epic – that never relies on linearity – that revolves around a central thought. These stories intertwine with others so you’ll survey glimpses of one within another from different points of views. Due to the wealth of stories, the cast is extremely sizable. It can be very confusing to support up with characters, which makes remembering those who appear more than once difficult. However, BP is able to retain the focus on (a) central character(s) at a time, which prevents it from becoming an incomprehensible mess. The most difficult aspect is determining where in the chronological context each tale and scene fits, but that’s also share of the fun.
To say the animation in BP is “new” is an understatement. The entire series (set one episode) is told with a vignette execute – a dark circle around its edges. Along with it, is a drab and incredibly tiny color palette. You’ll mostly sight shades of brown, sad, and white. This presentation is done on purpose, partly to gain a hazy dream world and a stark disagreement with the finale. Where Lain relied on dark/light themes with colorful colors to gain a psychedelic, disconnected tone, BP uses its have notice of minimalism to execute a similar one. A blurry haze is popular throughout and some scenes are so black as to perform it nearly impossible to command what’s happening. Viewers will either care for or loathe this style. While I really don’t care for it, it is completely current and quite effective. Such minimal animation and color means that there isn’t powerful beauty to be found in the visuals. But the trade-off is the well-behaved atmosphere it creates.
The music is perhaps a musty point as there’s very puny of it. However, I really like both the opening (especially) and ending themes. The sound, however, is the focus. Multiple effects are mature to gain eerie sounds which work extremely well within the context of the visuals. The acting is well done (in the sub), if perhaps unspectacular. The dialogue can obtain a bit windy at times, and some of the themes are trite and shallow – “Why am I alive? We all objective die anyway.” for example. But it’s the stories, tone, and myth that sucks you in. There’s something extremely hypnotic about BP that I can’t quite build my finger on. It’s not so considerable that I luxuriate in the series itself as I delight in being keen in the dream it creates. It’s been called a “anxiety”, but it’s not scary or horrible in the stale sense. I really contemplate BP defies genre tags as I’m not definite what to trace it at all.
This is a series like Lain that viewers will likely either like or loathe. Remarkable like Lain I found it as equally frustrating as it was spirited. The complex sage and atmosphere the series creates is undoubtedly the highlights. I feel that BP resolves itself a bit better than Lain did, with generous pacing and chronicle build. However, I preferred Lain’s animation and depth of themes that it weaved into the sage. I contemplate I’d place the two on about equal ground, and which you rob would be entirely personal. I assume I slightly assume Boogiepop Phantom as I found myself thought it better on the 2nd viewing, where great of Lain seems opaque for the sake of being obfuscatory.
The extras are minimal. There is director’s commentary and some music videos. But the best is the Production and Character notes on Disc 4. This details the many characters in BP and even provides a bit of an relieve for those who don’t know about the Boogiepop universe.
Overall, this is one of the truly new works in the world of Anime. Its originality alone is a quality making it worth your time. In a world where most of anime has become stagnant, I thoroughly be pleased works like this that smash the mold and stand out from all the banal imitations.
I have seen alot of honorable anime this one is no exeption. This anime is very dismal and mysterious but enthralling. This series may seem random, but, trust me, it will all obtain sense in the kill. It also has a hidden meaning in it as well. My only express to you is pay careful attention when watching this anime. It is confusing and sometimes it won’t execute sense to you at all, but if you preserve watching the episodes you’ll find it.

A gritty, fast-paced gangster film that ranks among the best. Made with a purpose in 1932, catch into consideration for example the complete title; ‘Scarface: The Shame Of A Nation’ and the beginning credits that ask you ‘what are you going to do about it? ‘, very straightforward but naïveté aside this is one of the best gangster films of all time. Paul Muni delivers a considerable performance, he is a driving force throughout the movie. Muni plays Tony Camonte, a character that is more than ‘loosely’ based on Al Capone. He easily dominates every scene he’s in except one or two scenes that score stolen by Ann Dvorak as his sultry miniature sister. George Raft is equally impressive as Tony’s best friend and partner in crime. Boris Karloff, novel from the success of ‘Frankenstein’ impartial one year earlier, also appears as one of Tony’s competitors. Ann Dvorak is helpful as Tony’s sultry sister who is also in worship (or is it lust? ) with Tony’s best friend (Raft) . Unsuitable at the time particularly because of the unhealthy relationship between Tony and his sister. Those hints of incest are level-headed kind of grisly today. Some of the elements were taken from dependable life like the ‘St. Valentine Day Massacre’ for example and the name ‘Scarface’ is directed at Al Capone himself. The ending is a knockout. An intense and brutal gangster drama that’s brilliantly directed by Hawks. A remake was attempted in the 80′s with Brian DePalma and Al Pacino in the role of Tony Montana, but was distinguished more graphic and violent not to mention overlong. This remains the best of the Scarface films. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film an 8!

WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT: [WARNING -- CONTAINS Set SPOILERS BELOW]
Tony Camonte [Paul Muni], is the lead, and a character patterned after Al Capone (also called “Scarface”) but not in every draw. The obviously amoral Camonte gradually seizes control of the bootlegging racket, from Johnny Lovo (Osgood Perkins), his boss, through a series of barbaric murders which eventually include Johnny Lovo. Apparently, Camonte’s ambition is translated into brutality as his sole constructive force, which is hardly constructive at all. There is no bargaining, communicating or making deals, Camonte simply kills everyone that stands in his intention even if it is really not needed. I reflect I counted 26 murders in the film, but others have stated that they counted 28.
BACK TO THE ACTION:
After bumping off his boss Lovo, with the succor of henceman Guino Rinaldo [George Raft], Camonte took up with Lovo’s mistress, Poppy [Karen Morley]. Though he has lusted after Poppy from the originate, Tony has shown oddly incestuous interest in his hold sister, Cesca [Ann Dvorak] that seemed more emotionally deep than that for his newly found trophy girl. There were hints about the incestuous nature of their relationship throughout the film with their mother, who Tony never implied was anything more than a domestic servant, constantly warning Cesca about Tony’s intentions in veiled but unmistakable language.
Believe it or not, there is actually humor woven into “Scarface” throughout, with one of the best examples being the assassinate of Gaffney, [Boris Karloff] while he was bowling. The camera pans to Gaffney’s bowling ball knocking down all the pins which is a strike, and one of the many examples of the “X” being venerable to show a execute being committed throughout the film. This reduced the explicitness of the violence, but was perhaps more effective and plan provoking through the implicitly sure outcome.
In the ruin, Camonte got what he had coming and took it like a weasel, which was required by the censors, but it also removed the romanticism that frequently was given to the many violent criminals of the day, especially Capone. His sister died with him, actually before him. At which point he became a defeated man, ready to throw in the towel, but not before he provided proof that he was no hero and unworthy of anyone’s respect, which the police had told us to interrogate.
ABOUT THE TONE OF THE FILM AND ITS TIME:
Hughes had all kinds of problems with the censors of the day, and we are told that two versions of the film were released. One without the censors approval and one with. Also, that a correct prologue had to be added at the beginning of the film, and added several times during it, to construct obvious that this was a terrible thing we were seeing, [the ruthless life of a killer] and that it was not okay to emulate. In essence, to compose distinct that the message of the film was NOT to wait on this kind of lifestyle.
MY Buy ON THE MESSAGE:
To me, the lead character, Tony Camonte, is a vicious swine whose courage came in the get of a gun in his hand. His lusts’ and interests’ were both perverted and dispicable, making him an unsympathetic character, and a blight in any civilized society. Superior – because that is how he was meant to be seen. That, in no procedure, diminishes the potency of this film. Instead it punctuates and highlights the accurate from the improper, the estimable from the terrible. We may not be positive what the great and apt is, after seeing this film, but we can be positive what is unpleasant and deplorable, because we have seen it for 93 minutes by the time the film ends.

ABOUT THE VIDEO:
The video quality was variable, but it was watchable from beginning to destroy. The sound was even better, with very small of the background screech that we can put a question to from a 74 year used film.
BOTTOM LINE:
An first-rate film and an apt companion for the more new remake of Scarface,1983, Directed by Brian De Palma and starring Al Pacino. When one recalls that Scarface was made in 1932, before film-noir, and actually during prohibition [1920-1933] it reminds us of what a gem this “talky” is.
